What the MindMap AI connector does in Mistral Vibe
MindMap AI plugs into Vibe as a custom MCP connector. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard AI tools use to talk to each other. Once connected, Vibe gets a set of mind mapping tools it can call on your behalf, using your own MindMap AI account. You can ask for a map from a topic, from a document in the chat, from research or planning Vibe has just done, or from anything else in the thread, then keep refining it in plain language.
- Create: turn a topic, a brief, a plan, or an attached file into a structured map.
- Expand: grow a branch, add relationship arrows to build a concept map, or group ideas with summary brackets.
- Restyle: switch between mind map, logic chart, and org chart layouts, and apply themes.
- Export: take the finished map out as a file when you are done.
- Keep: every map is saved to your MindMap AI account, where you can carry on editing it on the canvas with full styling control.
Connecting is free on the MindMap AI side. Map creation and AI edits use credits from your MindMap AI account (see plans and monthly credits); viewing and exporting your maps never uses credits, and manual editing on the canvas is always free.
One thing to know up front: MindMap AI is not in Vibe's connector marketplace. Mistral's marketplace holds its own featured connectors and a curated directory of partner servers, so any other MCP server is added by hand through the Add a custom connector option. That is why you paste a URL instead of searching for it. Mistral also shows a general notice that MCP connectors are not Mistral products and that you should only connect servers you trust. It appears for every custom server and is expected.
Before you start
Three things to check:
- A Mistral account with connector rights: on the Free, Pro, and Student plans the account owner is the administrator, so you can add the connector yourself. On Team and Enterprise plans, an administrator adds custom connectors for the organization. If you cannot see Add a custom connector, this is usually why.
- A MindMap AI account: you can sign up free during the connect flow with Google, Apple, or email, so there is nothing to prepare in advance.
- Pop-ups allowed: the MindMap AI sign-in opens in a new window. If your browser blocks it, clicking Add connector looks like nothing happened.

How to connect MindMap AI to Mistral Vibe
Nine steps, start to finish. You only do this once. After that the connector is available in every Vibe chat.
The one thing you will need to copy is the MCP server URL: https://mindmapai.app/mcp
Step 1: Open Vibe
On mistral.ai, open Start building in the top menu and choose Vibe. Sign in or create a Mistral account. If you already use Vibe, just open it.
Step 2: Open Context, then Connectors
In Vibe's left sidebar, click Context. It expands to show Memories, Connectors, Libraries, and Instructions. Click Connectors.
Step 3: Click Add connector
On the Connectors page, click + Add connector in the top right.
Step 4: Click Add a custom connector
The marketplace opens with Mistral's featured and directory connectors. MindMap AI is not in that list, so ignore it and click Add a custom connector in the top right.
Step 5: Name it and paste the URL
Type MindMap AI as the connector name. Vibe derives an internal reference from it, which you can ignore. Paste https://mindmapai.app/mcp in the Server field. Leave Description empty. Under Authentication, leave OAuth2.1 selected and leave Advanced OAuth Settings off; MindMap AI supports dynamic client registration, so no client ID or secret is needed. Under Visibility, Personal means only you can use the connector. Click Add connector.
Step 6: Allow access
A MindMap AI window opens. Sign in, or create a free account, then approve the permissions so Vibe can create and edit mind maps, read the maps it creates or you share, export maps to files, and see your name, email, and plan. Click Allow access. Only you, signed in to your account, can approve the connection.
Step 7: You're connected
Back in Vibe, the MindMap AI connector page lists a default connection marked Valid, with a Try now button and a Connect another account option. Setup is done.
Step 8: Ask for a map, then choose Always allow
Click Try now, or start a new chat, and describe the map you want. For example: "Create a product launch mind map." If Vibe answers in text, open the + menu in the prompt box and pick MindMap AI. Before Vibe runs a MindMap AI tool it shows the call, for example Create Project with the title and outline, and asks you to Allow once, Always allow, or Reject. Choose Always allow and Vibe stops asking for that tool.
Step 9: Trust the link, then Confirm
Vibe replies with a link to your map. Because it points outside Vibe, an Opening an external link dialog appears. Tick Trust https://mindmapai.app, then click Confirm. From then on, map links open straight from chat.
The result is a full map, saved straight to your MindMap AI account and ready to expand, restyle, and export.
Prompts to try in your next Vibe chat
Vibe is strongest when you let it work first and map second. Draft the plan, read the document, or reason through the problem in chat, then ask for the map. Naming the tool helps Vibe pick MindMap AI instead of answering in text. Start with the first prompt, then keep going in the same chat. Each follow-up edits the same map rather than starting over.
- Plan, then map: "Plan a product launch for a small SaaS team, then build it as a mind map in MindMap AI."
- From a file: "Turn this attached PDF into a mind map using MindMap AI."
- From the chat so far: "Take everything we have worked out in this chat and map it in MindMap AI, one branch per workstream."
- Study: "Create a concept map of photosynthesis in MindMap AI with arrows showing what depends on what."

Vibe replies with a short summary of the map and a link that opens it on the MindMap AI canvas. From there you can keep editing by hand, restyle it, share it, or export it.
